Several new businesses finding home at Baxter Village
By Eileen Bradway The Herald
FORT MILL – Business is booming in Baxter.

Several businesses will either open or start construction in Baxter Village in the coming months, said Kerri Robusto, sales and marketing director.

Coming to the development, located off S.C. 160 near Interstate 77, are:

n      The Six Pence Pub and Restaurant, an English pub with a rooftop terrace, will serve lunch and dinner.  Construction is expected to start by the end of the year.  The chain also has locations in Savannah, GA., and Blowing Rock, N.C.

n      Field of Dreams Nurture and Education Center will open in the spring next to the new Weston YMCA, which is scheduled to open in the summer.  Field of Dreams will offer programs for infants, toddlers, and school-age children, according to its Web site, which can be found at www.fieldofdreamscenter.com.

n      Dr. Tommy Epps, a Fort Mill native, will open an orthodontics practice in about seven months.

n      An office condominium building will open in the spring at the corner of Market Street and Sutton Road in Baxter.  It will off units 600 square feet and up, according to a release.

n       Liu Liu’s Chinese Restaurant will open later this month.

Polka Dots, a stationary and gift shop that prints invitations and announcements in-house, is one of the newest additions to the development, opening just three weeks ago.  It is the first venture for co-owners Kelly Patterson and Heather Lux, who decided to combine their backgrounds in stationary and marketing.

“We just had a good feeling this was a good location,” Patterson said, adding they’ve gotten good feedback from the community.  Lux is also a Baxter resident.

The Baxter Village development has about 560 homes so far, Robusto said.  The increasing population offers a good customer base for businesses locating there, she said.

“It’s exciting because it’s another part of Baxter that is becoming a reality”, she said.

Baxter is already home to Beef O’Brady’s, SweetTreats Ice Cream and Coffee, law offices, a cleaners and salon, among other businesses.

The first house in Baxter was built in 1998.  By 2009, the development should be complete with 1,325 homes and businesses and shops.  The development also has an elementary school, public library, and urgent care center.

“It’s a long time in the works,” Robusto said.
