Three-Year Old Curriculum

Building on Fundamentals

The three-year program continues to build on the fundamentals taught in the two-year program. What sets three-year-olds apart from toddlers more than anything is their newfound ability to express themselves in words and ideas. At Field of Dream, our classroom curriculum for three-year-olds is designed to utilize their natural curiosity and enhance individual development.

South Carolina Early Learning Standards

We also incorporate the South Carolina Early Learning Standards. These standards are dissected into five developmental domains which are achieved daily through small group learning, classroom environment, discovery time, morning meetings, and daily routines. While the educators use the South Carolina Early Learning Standards to guide their lessons, the primary focus of the three-year-old classroom is to build more complex social skills and gestures while developing self-awareness and individuality in each child.

The six developmental domains include:

  • Play and Learning (APL)
  • Emotional and Social Development (ESD)
  • Health and Physical Development (HPD)
  • Language Development and Communication (LDC)
  • Mathematical Thinking and Expression (MTE)
  • Cognitive Development (CD)

Classroom Environment

The classroom environment is set up to stimulate and encourage discoveries by the children. We facilitate this type of learning by frequently adding various materials to our centers, walls, and playground. This exposes our children to the different domains in the Early Learning Standards and sparks creativity and problem-solving skills.

We strive to create a home-like environment in the classroom so that children feel safe and secure as they learn and grow. We add natural materials to fuel imagination and an appreciation for nature. By inspiring children in various ways, they can indulge their naturally curious and inquisitive minds in a healthy way.
